I purchased a new impelled and it came just that way....just the impeller. Isn't there a gasket or two that I need as well when replacing the impeller?

Yes there are gaskets. Should have ordered what is called an impeller kit. The OEM kit also includes the orings, face seal and installation tool for the face seal.
PS, here is a link to the OEM service manual. Sounds like you need it. And make sure you have the impeller going the right direction on the Gen II drives.

Thanks Don, I have the service manual downloaded already.
I'm having trouble finding a 'kit' that includes all necessary gaskets. Looked on this site, and dougrussell.com. I'll do some more checking later today.
Thanks again.

The Impeller kit is #47-43026K06 for the Mercury/MerCruiser brand replacement. It includes everything for replacing the Impeller. I just bought it last week for mine. While you have the lower unit seperated from the upper, there is a O-ring that is in there, next to the water pump housing for the gear lube. It is under $2.00 and is worth replacing. I use mercruiserparts.com, to look up all my info for my engine, and drive, and it also gives you a good idea on price for the parts. Here is a link to a youtube video of the Impeller replacement. Best of luck to you!

It's commonly called a quad ring, and it's included in Impeller kit #47-43026K06 as does the tool for the face seal. But, It does not include the gasket and orings for installing the drive back onto the bellhousing.

Thank you for that info Don. I didn't know it was included. I ordered another one, so I guess I will have a spare.

There isn't a gasket between the upper and lower, just the Quad Ring around the oil passage.

I Thought you were offering to a gasket needed in the reply above.

Right. But I wouldn't be removing that to replace the impeller. ?

It's best to. How else are you going to do the rest of the maintenance, like lubing the ujoints, checking alignment, checking the gimbal bearing, checking the bellows for water and/or gear lube, etc. ??????

Besides, the lower is a PITA to install and get the shifter and tubes etc. lined up when you are new at the process.

Have you ever visited the Adults Only sticky at the top of this forum? If not, you need to start looking at stickies. They are there for a reason. ;)

Re: alpha 1 gen 2 impeller replacement

I have looked at it quite a bit. I was going to do gimbal, u joints, etc separate from the impeller, but makes as much sense to do at same time. I try to plan projects to not take up an entire weekend.

Be very careful stabbing the lower back on. The 2 back to back seals in the upper for the vert drive shaft are only plastic and be dislodged easily resulting in a fried upper.
