That's a Prestolite BID distributor. Volvo used it for years, but Volvo never used a shift interrupt system.

I don't even know if it can be used with a shift interrupt. Shorting it to ground might just kill it after a while.

Most go to the neg side of the coil

Just as a note of caution.... the engine is suppose to have a flame arrestor, it looks like you have a K & N filter on there.

The flame arrestor will of coarse stop a flame from backfire.

Yes, most do. But that distributor was never used with a shift interrupt switch. Wonder what happens to the insides of the module when you repeatedly short it to ground.
