Alpha 1 gen 1 compatibility

I have a cracked lower unit alpha 1 gen 1 year is 1987.
I have found a 77 MR 1
Can I use the lower unit on my leg? Picture is of the leg I'm looking to purchase Screenshot_20230306_094758_Facebook.jpg

i believe you can use the LU from a gen 1 on a gen 2.
i was advised i could ,as i had a spare gen 1 LU and was not sure whether the one that come with the boat ( gen 2 outdrive) was in usable condition.as it was my gen 2 LU was Ok condition so i never got to prove compatibility.

You cannot swap gen one and gen two lowers

the MC1 drive pictured would bolt in place of a gen 1 drive if they had the same upper ratio.

I believe the lower would swap on the gen one upper. only concern might be if it has the preload pin on dive shaft not sure if that causes and issue using in later non preload pin drives.

Maybe @Bondo or @kenny nunez can confirm

These gentlemen helped me along while I was in same situation...see the following;

OK Ney Sayers! I completely swapped my damaged a1 gen 2 with my A1 gen 2 (including bell housing) and wahla! Don't see anywhere in this thread where someone said you couldn't swap a gen 2 with a gen 2. In fact that is the most pragmatic approach to your initial issue Unsure of why you also...

The above is a bit confusing as I meant I swapped out my gen 2 with a good gen1 successfully!
