I've just bought a 1999 chaparral sunesta 232 with a merc 5.0 w/alpha 1 2nd generation outdrive. My question is how much oil should the outdrive be using? The boat has 200 hours on it. When I picked the boat up, the outdrive reservoir was full to the line and after a few days of use, it's dropped 1/4". Is this normal? i/o's are new to me. Thanks in advanced. It shouldn't use oil, the level can change somewhat due to tempature, if the boat is on a trailer ck the drain holes above the cavition plate at the front of the unit after it is tipped up overnite, if there is oil there chances are the seals under the water pump are bad

It could be the marina didnt quite get the outdrive full and it took oil from the res. If it keeps dropping there is a leak somewhere that needs to be found
