I plan on putting the rug back...esp since my fiberglassing is not so perfect, can I just use bottom paint to over the deck...just trying to save some cash.
If not, what should I use knowing rug is going on?

Thanks.

You don't need to to abything to the f-glass if you're going to glue carpet over it.

I wouldn't use bottom paint. Many bottom paints are designed to slough off.

hey joe !

are you saying that you dont want to glass the deck? and just want to paint it to protect it then carpet it?

if you are.....i highly suggest glassing the deck....its easy....dont let it scare you....it will last another 10-15 years.

no glass......bare wood.....3 years (depending on owner treatment)

paint over wood and carpet....5-7 years.......

glassing is a combination of painting and laying carpet....if you can paint and put a rug down.....you can glass......cost of glass for a deck.....less than $50......paint.....35 a gallon.....for the extra 15 bucks.............

I'm not sure which way you're doing it, but the answer is no to the bottom paint either way.

Agreed, the cost alone doesn't make it worth it, not to mention as said...it is designed to be worn away, not to mention the fact that it has copper in it...extra weight that is unnecessary.

If you wanted to paint it with anything, get a polyurethane designed for outdoor use...however, glassing it would be just as easily done and last years longer than anything else.

PM me if you are in the need for some cheap glass for this purpose, I have a huge roll of it sitting out back that I'll never use all of.

Thanks for all the replies. I actually did glass it...the mat wasn't as easy as I hoped...messy!!! Can't tell how many times I got the hairy palm joke. Anyway, It came out pretty good, but thought I would paint over top just to make look better??? I know, the rug is going to cover it anyway, but wasn't sure if and how I would tack the rug down. Just got the boat and the rug wasn't tacked down which made it easy to release the moisture and clean. Area mostly used for deck is only like 9'x7' on my 18 bowrider. Some say glue it some snap it....not sure. Kinda like it removable???
