all aboard the newb stern drive questions

As title states I am defiantly a newb to both this forum and boats in general, I recently purchased an 1988 doral bow rider it has a 3.0l omc cobra Long story short big lake, bad weather, new boater and big rock so now I need to replace the stern drive, I have been searching for good interchange info for 3 days and now I apologies but I have to ask here like a new guy The stern drive on my 3.0l omc cobras model number is 983841 I have found one recently for a decent price but it's model number is 985288 it looks identical but just want to confirm with you very experienced omc people Thanks for dealing with my stupidity

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... I'm no OMC expert, but ya gotta have the same Gear Ratio, when shoppin' used drives,.... Ya gotta know that the potential replacement, also ran with a 3.0l motor,.... a drive from a V-motor, won't work,.... Wrong Ratios,....

Welcome.
All the Cobra drives will mount on the housing.
But not all will be right.
Like Bondo said the v drives are a different ratio and also have a bigger lower gear housing.
But if you have a drive from a 3.0 ten it should work.
