alarm on 40hp Mercury

When I turn on the ignition key, the alarm (loud steady piercing sound)starts and will not stop. The engine is cold and the oil tank is full.<br /><br />Any thoughts?

It sounds like a shorted temp. sender unplug it and see if it stops

Thanks for the quick answer. I'll look for the sender which I assume is somewhere on the head.
