Are you sure it's fuel and not over-temp????

Another thought would be a stuck check valve causing a possible fuel restriction if it's fuel related. It's usually screwed into the tank fitting, or IS the tank fitting.
Does the bulb pump up efficiently???

kenny, thanks for your response. I am using an auxillary tank and it still happens. could the engine overheat in 1 minute?? doesnt seem like temprature alarm goes off in 1-2 minutes. where is the check valve and it seems like a fuel problem to me.could it be a head gasket?? causing no vacuem in pump???

The fact it's dieing bothers me....
If a water pump failure has occured, yes, 1-2 minutes could do it.
The fuel pump works on crankcase pressure pulses from inside, a head gasket would not affect that.
Can you put your hands on top of the cylinder banks when it dies???
As for the check valve, it's usually screwed into the tank elbow or brass fitting into tank...it may or may not have one.
What boat are we talking about here?

kenny i have a robolo 26ft. water pump is pumping ok. i see the water squirting out. dont think its overheating at all. could it be a bad cylinder?? low compression in one cylender. engine always ran fine.engine dies in 1-3 minutes after alarm goes off.

Re: alarm keeps going off and engine dies

OK, I believe you have a fuel restriction...
Do you have an in-line filter???If so, you need to check and make sure you didn't pick up some trash...
Compression would not be the issue here, but if it's fuel restricted, it may run lean, which is not a good deal, and "could" cause some cylinder damage if run enough that way.
If you have a removable fitting at the engine, it needs to be removed and the line clamped directly to a barb.
Does the bulb pump up as normal????
When it dies, is the bulb soft???
The only other possibility I can think of, is an electrical component getting hot (faulty) and quiting, then cools down enough to restart.

kenny i appreciate your help, when you say a removable fitting at engine what do you mean? a line clammped dirctly to a barb?will an electrical component get the alarm to go off??

kenny, you were right about electricalcomponent problem!!! power pack on right cylinder bank was eratic and not working all the time causing engine to stall out. alarm problem has subsided but still goes on once in a while but engine does not stall out anymore. am thinking a bad alarm sender switch?? boat running great!! did you ever hear of a bad switch??
