Alarm Going Off!!!!!!

Hey everyone. I'm new to the forum and I also just bought my first boat a few weeks ago.

I have a 1988 Mercury 90 HP with oil injection. It had been running great up until a few days ago. One night after I went fishing I left the ignition switch in the "On" position. I noticed the next morning that a steady alarm was going off very faint. Needless to say I had run the battery dead. I charged up the battery and went out to the lake. When I turned the key back to the "On" position a steady ringing was coming from the controls. I cranked the motor over but the ringing didn't stop. The motor started up but didn't seem to idol very high, even after moving the idol lever to it's fullest, then cut out. I tried to crank it over again and nothing. All the while, the ringing wouldn't stop unless I turned the key to the "Off" position. Does anyone have an idea of what is going on? My gas tank is full and my oil tank is full. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks........ John

Re: Alarm Going Off!!!!!!

A steady tone is the overheat alarm.

Unplug the temp sensor to see if that stops the alarm. Ground that wire, the alarm should sound again.

How old is the impeller, how good is the 'P' stream, does the exhaust plate stay cool when running?
