If you're talking about those 'homeowner' type units made by Wagner I'd say no. I see an orange peel nightmare in the works. My $.02
( we are talking about doing a boat - right )?
These will work just fine:http://public.graco.be/0/?d=111
You'll need to get the correct tip.
I was thinking about one of those Home Cheapo things that I wouldn't use to paint a fence.
So, I should just toss the wagner paint crew into the trash? I'll be using an industrial alkyd enamel on top of a zinc chromate primer for an aluminum boat.
An airless system will definitely orange peel like nobody's business, but if you use it to get the material on and then tip it like with the roller, should go pretty fast.
My opinion is to either buy or borrow a Hvlp airgun - if you already have an aircompresser thats great.
Some of the smaller compressors will have a tough time keeping up so keep this in mind if you have a smaller air compressor.
1) run a fan on your air compressor to keep it cool - the head gaskets can blow if they get too hot.
2) plan your paint work so you paint sections vs the entire boat in one shooting. I painted one side complete and then moved to the other side and then the transom.
3) Prop the boat up off the trailer to be able to paint the bottom sides.
Also practice painting something before you shoot the boat - or shoot the boat and know you might have to fix the paint job later.
