I will buy a boat that need some caring, interior is quite sunky but price is interesting...

The real problem will be to repair a hole under the boat its about 3 feet long and one feet wide and was caused by an impact when taking off trailer and put in sea, the place is under the captains chair

Idont have pictures yet but will upload asap i have them.

My plans; remove the chair and carpet take my electrcal saw machine put in cutting depht to 1" and make a rectangular cut for making repair from above possible put in 3-4 layers with fibreglass.

Will there be any stringers or foam in that area?

Is this the way to go or would it be better to make the repair from underside?

Made a post at the searay forum but one input was made and suggested to move here for more adequate answers:)

Hello michael and welcome to Iboats..

hmm..3'x1' trailer launch hole ? seem suspicious if you ask me..

Anyhow.. aye.. pics would Greatly tell the whole story.

You Must repair that inside and out ( with glass ).

Remove some of your bad glass from the outside ( you will have to do that anyway for the repair ) and see where the stringers/bulks are.

Thanks YD, went out and took some pictures hard to get it real good when laying under a boat and in limited light..Anyway the pictures will show the engine, interior and the hole any inputs will be much appriciated to get me in the right direction what to think about and for sure how it should be done in a proper way all tips are welcome!!!

This is my neighbour who wants to sell the boat...Its now in my garden but not payed so there is still some time to....

I like to repair things and have repaired glassfiber boats before but thats some times ago but once there so no probs....Hardwork will be quite ok for me but doesnt want to cut in the boat in pieces or in the wrong places to get acsess for repair.

The damage itself looks like a hard impact when putting in water and the place is right under steerbord chair.

Will do all dirty job from insided of cause and the finishing touch from under neath.

Cheers
michael:)

You will definitely need to cut out a portion of the deck to repair that damage. Lots of Help on here and on YouTube with videos to walk you thru the process and the materials. It can be done and if you have been there before you should be successful. What else is wrong with the boat?? Motor run?? Deck Soft?? What is he asking for the purchase price?

Motor is running:) The hole i think is the mayor issue to solve, will do the touch up mkeanwhile= compounding the hole boat and made all the easy but time consuming parts done.

'We are talking ? now and not $ so price would scare most of you guys away.. uphere (Scandinavia) they are pretty high valued overall doesnt have to be American boats but of cause shipping a 16" to Europe is like 1000$.

But thats just money what i really like is the shape of this small searays looks like the do 35 knots just sitting there :D

So is it just to start cut then???

Looking at the picture again, is that a fiber core boat. In other words is that wood or some kind of fiber board with fiberglass lamination on the front and back side to make the hull? if so that is another kettle of fish. Those hulls are a lot more difficult to repair.

Today i painted fenders to my beetle project just finished so will take some time now and figure out how i shall proceed with the seville, think its only glassfiber idont now what fiberboard is but rarely not in my boat only stringers i suppose its maybe a general construction on American boats?

Will post some pic's when i have better acsess and if someone have done this work earlier please tell e if there are stringers so i dont cut to long or wide..

Cheers

You could drill a small hole in the bottom ( if there isnt allready one there :) ) and stick a bent coat hanger in there..spin it around and see where it hits something.

Your going to have to remove the capt seat.. so do that and remove the carpet. IMO I would remove EVERYthing out of the boat that you can. IE cushions curtains jackets etc. before you start. Or your going to trash them during the repair process.

with a small hole saw drill out somewhere that sounds hollow. Measure the thickness of the floor..set your circ saw to that depth and cut out a section of the floor that you feel compfortable to access the repair area.

Take some pics and post them..well go from there.

I have a funny feeling that the ski locker is going to be in the way..

Started the dirtywork, used the circular saw and set cuttingdepht to 1", removed gastank to see how it was there small ceacks was visible i have now left everything to dry up for a couple of days.

There is room for some overlaping when putting in new glassfiber but is it enough?

From above skibox looking down, were the tunnel for the drain is going through gastank area just wondering now when plywood and foam was wet are there any use of that drain?

Here are under the gastank were you can see small cracks and from underside also was dripping water from them..is it okay to put fiber and plastic above or should i take the hole crack away?

This is from underside when everything was cleaned and gelcoat sanded away
to the left are the small cracks from under the gastank.

Does this look ok, to just wait for everything to dry up and then start to put fiber on again or....

Hello Mike..

Yea..it Appears to a good prep job for glass. If you wipe down the raw glass with acetone you Will see any delam that may need a little more attention. The more dead glass you can remove the better, without risking integrity.

You may want to clean up the beveled edge a little more .. consistant ? ( whithout so many jaggidy edge points )

One tip if you beveled the inside..you can screw a peice of doorskin or formica on the outside to make a psudo mold ..

Looking good m8.
