I am needing a new trolling motor and can't decide on a gas or electric trolling motor . Don't like paying the high price for gas, not sure how I am going to recharge the batteries at the dock. If I go electric , will have to load the boat and charge the batteries at home. Wondering what some others in this situation have done.

If your boat stays in the water and you have regular 115 AC power at the dock then it's as simple as hooking up a good battery charger when you get off the boat. Trailering would be the same, just plug it up when you get home.

For just trolling?

A JW series Johnny 3hp outboard weighs less than a big deep cycle battery, never goes dead and will troll all day on a quart or two of gas.

The main disadvantage is that you will need to dismount it and lock it away when not in use because it is very popular and easy to steal.
