Advice for Portable Fuel Tank Mercury 115hp Command Thrust

[1985 Century Mustang]

My neighbor has/had a fuel tank leak in his onboard fuel tank. So he drained all the gas out and doesn't want to cut into his deck to remove the old damaged fuel tank, he wants to go with 2 portable tanks now. The fuel fittings were fine, it's just a bad leaky tank.

Question- What tank do you recommend for his engine and can you post a link etc. He probably will go with 2 separate tanks. I'm sure it will need pressurized tanks, so can you please advise on what he would need.

Why a pressurized tank ?? Most engines have a fuel pump...two 6 gallon tanks won't get him far with 115 hp motor...

Hi. I can confirm you won’t need a pressurised tank. I’ve ran my 115 CT from a normal remote outboard tank and even straight from a jerry can. I just had to buy another fuel fitting (one with red tab quick connect thing) and stick it on the end of the remote tank fuel pipe.
These engines have a fuel pump that easily takes the fuel through.

My current boat is a 2002 model with a 24 gallon built in tank. I don't boat very often any more, and when boating don't stay out very long and don't use much fuel. I didn't like the idea of that large tank and trying to ensure that I had fresh fuel.

I bought a couple of portable 6 gallon plastic tanks at Walmart for about 50 bucks each and that solves my problem. These tanks are made to sit flat on the deck when in use but the spare can be stored upright.

Gee, pressurized tanks were on the old Johnnyrudes, say mid 50's. By 1958 my Johnny Fat-fifty had a fuel pump and a regular fuel tank. I do not know if Mercury ever used a pressurized fuel tank.

I would be surprised if Mercury made a 115HP motor with a pressurized fuel tank.

Mercury did use a pressure tank on some early 1950's motors.-----Used on the Mark 20 ( 1953 ) model.----Have 1 in my collection.

I had a fuel pump on my '88 115 tower and my current 2002 115 4 cyl looper. Funny as a teen, I didn't know why OMC used a dual hose to their tank even though you had to pump up the tank and didn't understand why just that you had to do it to get the enginestarted to use it but I thought it was cool.

Gee, any type of marine fuel tank should work. If using a portable tank on a larger motor, get the largest you can handle, say 12Gal.

If you use a quick connect fitting, you need the correct type. On a 115HP motor with a built in tank, I would directly connect the fuel line, and use 3/8" fuel line to make sure she gets enough fuel.

The engine running pushed air into the tank to maintain pressure. You only needed to pump in the startup to push fuel to the engine until it started
