All,

I am good with the basics of painting as pe WOG's signature link. Despite him thinking he's an old dumb okie, I beg to differ. Thanks WOG for your help thus far.

I am at the stage where I need to choose a paint color. Black would be good, but a more metallic looking dark gray would be better based on my tastes.

I want to mix these at a ratio of 1 gal blk to 1 or 1/2 qt aluminum. I will also be thinning based on temperature and adding hardner. I will be spraying it on over several coats of gray primer. The primary primer coat will be ZC applied to bare metal areas.

Question:

Besides color variations, what negatives effects of this mixing of paints have I not considered (if any)?

The thing I like about sticking with stock colors is when I scratch/scrape up the paint job I can just grab a rattle can right off the shelf to touch up. Quick, easy, cheap! Just the way I roll;):D

haha. I like the way you roll. Yes! color variations can be a beeyotch. The way I roll is to complicate everything that I do. There is a local paint supplier here that can take my leftover paint and put it into a aerosol rattle can for 12.99 if I choose. I don't think I'll do that anyway though. Any scratch that happens i'll just touch up with an eyeliner brush, or I can even spray in on with my airbrush. Even if all of my extra dries up and/or runs out from my high-impact fishing activites I can still go the the shelf and get the stock colors and mix to the same ratios if my leftover is so old that it dried out, etc.

The only problem I see is with the Aluminum Paint. It's a bit funky it its composition. I would recommend a trial with pints or quarts to see if the mix will be compatible. Never done it so can't speak from experience. You can get the dark grey by just adding some gloss white to the black. I'd say 1/4 cup white to 1 cup of Black would be a good starting point. Metal flake is a whole different kettle of fish and with Rustoleum I'd say not really a good Idea.

Very good. I will be sure to test spray something.

Thank you
