I read through another 650 thread about heavy duty swivel plates & adding a fairly wide range of late 70's early 80's T&T to this motor. It was light on details but suggested it could be done.

Any good locations for finding that info?

I will edit this post, I have about 20 sites I want to read through........ Advance Search: find it, use it, Love it!!:facepalm:

It's late & the 71 650 kicked my a&& tonight!

Thanks

Perfect! Thanks. T&T will be down the road but thanks for the ebay link too!

Still wrestling with a jack plate or raising the transom, IF I can't find a short shaft 650. I like the 650 on the FireFlite, I'll just re-badge the cover decals to an earlier 650 or blend 650#'s w/ 400/450 Merc decals. The early 60's decals look different from the early 70's, but essentially the shell is very similar, & to most observers, the re-badged cowl & motor will 'look' correct. And of course, the 650 wasn't available when the FireFlite hit the water.:cool:

PHP:
I have a 72 1150 that I started adding power T&T today. I found a unit off a later unit for $150. It is a four hose unit and included everything including the mercury switch. It is a straightforward job so far. The only problem I have run into is the original upper transom bolts interfere with the new T&T brackets. So I will install lag bolts or lose them all together. Good luck with your project.

That eBay link is he exact set up I am working on installing.

Below is a link to the install and owners manuals for the 4 hose PTT. Another user had posted a link to it as individual jpegs. I was able to download them individually and save it as a single document. I did print it out and it is actually more readable then I thought.
