I recently purchased a Jon boat with a 1985 mercury 35 hp el long shaft motor with manual trim. Im wanting to change to power tilt and trim and I see that at the time the motor was originally made, mercury also offered power trim option. I have seen a used power t/t that says for mercury 1984-93 35-200 hp. Did mercury make the motors compatible to change a manual t/t using the same bracket and t/t motor for the power unit or would it have had to have been a power t/t originally for this to work? Thanks!

The PTT unit for that motor had the trim pump in the boat with 4 hydraulic hoses that went to and powered the two trim cylinders that bolt on the outside of the transom bracket. See parts diagrams.

I can tell you that the PTT units changed dramatically shortly after that motor was made. The transom clamp was redesigned and the PTT cylinders were moved inside the transom clamps. I am not sure what PTT unit the guy is selling, but I would look it over real well, as I think the range of years and HP for it is wrong.
