Adding A Stern Mounted Trim Switch

I'm going to add a trim switch closer to the outdrive for convenience. My swim platform has two hinged compartments, one contains the ladder. The other one is where I think I'm going to mount it, as it is directly over the trim pump assembly in the engine compartment. My question is.....what brand of switch is a good reliable choice for this? I see West Marine has one for $55

I assume the switch will be accessible when you are in the water, or standing next to the boat on it's trailer? If not, you should consider that, as that is the most often time I would use it.

Any marine SPDT switch of at least 5A should work. $55 seems a bit high for a switch, but WM thinks a lot of it's stuff. I would think Amazon would have one for less.

carling water-tight (IP68S) push button switches are $22 each. you will need two, or a good sealed momentary toggle switch for about $10

I added a Mercruiser switch (Part #87-815200A1). It came with the switch and a wiring harness that is just plug and play; no splicing required. Super easy to install and one of the best purchases I ever made for my boat.

Looks like Iboats doesn't carry it, but you can find it at:

Correct......mostly for operating while it's on the trailer for stowing, flushing, maintenance, etc. Being able to raise and lower while looking directly at the skeg to ground clearance.

This looks to be the same as what WM has on their website, but unsure of the quality of this one.
