Recently bought a 1997 Sailfish 198 CC with a Evinrude 130HP. It came equipped with a dual battery setup with Perko (Off, Bat1, Both, Bat 2). Bat 1 is starting battery and Bat 2 runs all the electronics (bilge pump, baitwell, FF, stereo and tilt and trim). I want to purchase a 24v, TM, 80lbs, 52" MK. I have read several forums that do not recommend using a deep cycle battery as a starting battery. I want to know if I can buy a starting battery and just hook it up directly to the outboard.
That way i don't have to worry about the trolling motor draining both batteries. Is it possible to just isolate the starting battery in this manner and leave the present dual battery setup with the Perko to just run the electronics?
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. No onboard charger but willing to add one as well.
