You cant compete with Robin Williams in good morning Vietnam when he went into the VP on the QT spiel, that was funny.

The reason there are so many acronyms in the military is because most of them wouldn't know the meaning of the actual words anyway! :)

When I was first working in engineering and working on some instructions for a test set, used by army grunts, for some radar heads, I was told to keep the 3 syllable words and up to a minimum...not joking.

… Kinda' laughed the other day. I had a person verbally say, "OMG." What made me chuckle is that saying "OMG" vs. saying "Oh my god" are exactly the same expenditure of energy - 3 syllables.
There was a great episode on "Curb your enthusiasm" with LOL being actually said. Pretty darn funny!

Curb Your Enthusiasm - LOL = Verbal texting - Season 8 Ep. 3 - YouTube

Something similar on the 'Monk' show when he was trying to be cool. His line was, "I LOL'd... out loud.' Pretty funny.

Yes, language is always in flux, and those who learned a particular manner of speech and expression are usually offended by the latest iteration of the same. I know I am. It always sounds to me as if the latest term is a result of laziness, with no regard for elegance or clarity of expression (did I actually say that?). But let's face it, an educated person from the 1800's probably would have been appalled at the speech of the late 1900's, too.

the DOD has nothing on Cummins for acronyms. there is a published FUA (Frequently used Acronyms) that has 25,000 acronyms just for Cummins.

there are 5 VOC's everything from Volatile Organic Compounds to Voice of Customer to Very Offended Camper.

Is it killing the english language. IDK. FWIW, I find it in a state of flux

You guys do know that cursive is no longer being taught? No such thing as penmanship as we knew it.
Soooooo you can have a lot of fun just playing dumb (very easy for me) and not talk, just write out a note and give it to your grandkids.

Payback for texting: k c u 4 mc (ok, see you for McDonalds)

I know, it's to bad about cursive, I think it will be a detrament in the future work force.

SO far as the kids, always liked what Bill Cosby said about the parents curse.

I hope when you grow up you have kids just like you :)
