Re: Acronis True Image Home 2009?
What model of Dell do you have Broom? I can turn the mouse off and on in my Wife's dell, in fact you should be able to go to the mouse properties and specify that the pad be disabled when an external USB mouse is plugged in, also if it is a microsoft mouse, you need to install the drivers to get this function to work correctly.
It's a new Dell Inspiron 15R. I thought it would be good to clone the drive before adding programs and transferring files. I used a Logitech wireless mouse on the laptop. It worked just fine. However the touchpad program did NOT have the checkbox to disable the touchpad when an external USB mouse was installed. Also the FN/F3 keys did not disable the touchpad as it was supposed to.
It took two different sessions with Dell Techs (totaling almost three hours) for them to finally get the program/drivers that included that check box. The Wife's older Inspiron 1764 had that option from the beginning as does my cheapy little Toshiba laptop.
Now, if I ever have to reload the operation system on that 15R, it will reload the original touchpad program/drivers and I will have to go thru Dell to get the proper one, at my expense.
This is one of the reasons I want to clone the drive while everything is correct and clean. However, as usual, I do not know where to start. I have an unopened copy of Acronis 2009 but apparently that is no good for Win 7.
I went out looking for a later version and am confused why some of them say for multiple computers? Does that mean you can only clone one time with a copy that does not specify multiple computers?
I am seeing here that there might be other cloning options? Any links? I have a huge old Western Digital My Book Drive that is just begging to have a cloned copy of this new computer added to it.
