Re: Confrontational Posts

If you don't want to get into a confrontational post...then don't post in it.

Is it the E10 post that you are talking about?

That's one, and yes, I was posting on it, but there are a few others that seem to have taken turns where there are some uncalled-for comments. Along with the E10's, the oil (locked), buying a new boat, and others. I agree with Marlboro180, they seem to come in bunches.

Re: Confrontational Posts

Some seem to see it as confrontational anytime another person disagrees with them. I see it as an opportunity to pass on knowledge and correct false assumptions, or learn something new depending on which side of the disagreement my beliefs fall ....

You've got to remember it's the internet, anyone can post anything or claim anything they want. As Bruceb58 says, if a thread bothers you, then don't post in it or read it. If a particular poster bothers you, use the "Ignore" function in the Control Panel and you won't even see their posts anymore. If you don't get to read this because you've already got me ignored, then "Oh Well"! :D

This forum is a "nice, fluffy, feel-good" forum. Kind of like the kids T-ball and soccer games where nobody loses (right!). No real discussion takes place here, it might offend somebody. That's the way the owners want it, you've got to remember they're in business to make money and don't want to lose any potential customers. Lots of times you'll learn a lot more at some of the other boating forums depending on what you want to discuss.

Re: Confrontational Posts

I have seen several posts degrade into confrontations.
They get locked and sometimes removed.

Most of the time, when they start getting like that, I just walk away. Like was said earlier. Argueing with sombody who is probably halfway across the country just isn't worth it.

I will say that I have actually learned from threads that have been very confrontational.
Some subjects include imported cars and spark plugs..........lol

Re: Confrontational Posts

Definitely not the friendliest forum I visit but it's easy enough to stay out of trouble.
I do shake my head when I see statements like "learn to drive a boat" get lauded as good advice.
Number two on the good advice list is "man up"
:)
I build my ignore list on those gems and I have no problems.

Re: Confrontational Posts

What's the deal lately? Seems to be a lot of confrontational posts lately. Especially when it's science-related. What gives? Anyone else feeling this way?

Back a few years back there were lots of heated debates. I found the best way if your not into getting in to one is just don't answer there reply. It will drive them nuts and you get to keep the conversation going with the posters you want to.

Re: Confrontational Posts

I remember the days when the mods had blisters on their fingers dealing with many posts here. They did a big crackdown about 3 years ago making this the best (in my opinion) forum. Many moved on that are missed, but couldn't deal with not being confrontational.
The good ol' days....*SNIFF*......

Re: Confrontational Posts

I have had posts that I took as confrontational, I simply reply back and reaffirm that my statement was based on my personal experience, just my personal opinion, or give info to back up what I said and from there if they are so miserable that they just have to strike out at others to try and feel better then so be it, I do not have to have a fight with them, I go on with life and do not let them ruin my day. As someone else posted, if you do not get confrontational back there can only be good posting with other good posters. Imho. :D

Life time ban. From here and several other forums. He use to pop up here occasionally under thinly veiled screen names. He'd last for a day or two at best.

I always wonder how many old timers still lurk in the darkness here that are ready and willing to pounce on a topic? Huh Haut :D

Well that was kind of at jerky question to ask...

(LOL. Sorry I just had to ;))

I do have to say that sometimes it is fun to debate, as long as it's done in good taste though.

One man's conflict is another man's interesting debate. Frankly the Ethanol thread is pretty mild, and some pots may actually be calling kettles black . . . ;)

Re: Confrontational Posts

I would agree with that.
I disagree, and you are stupid for agreeing with QC. Just because he is a moderator doesn't mean you have to suck-up! ;):eek:

Just kidding, Bruce, but I could resist no longer!:D Temptation must have been allowed back ...

Beer would be an excellent start. Tahoe? Your boat? Your house? In fact it might be best if you stay home too. I'd really like you then.
