Re: acetone

Yes, it may dull the finish though, so you might need to rewax those areas.

Whoa 2600. Acetone will soften and distort your gel coat. I wouldn't use it!

Re: acetone

Don't worry, cleaning gel coat with acetone won't hurt it. If you were to leave an acetone soaked rag on gel coat it may cause problems, but just cleaning it won't do any damage.

Re: acetone

I have used it a couple of times....seems to work well.I had used laquer thinner once.Is that any better or worse.I am changing my thru hulls right now and I thought I had read somewhere to clean and prep the area around the thru hull hole prior to putting in the new one with the bedding compound , you used acetone.I also heard it was ok for the odd stain....just wanted to make sure.

2600

Re: acetone

Acetone is fine for cleaning gel coat. No worries. I don't know about laquer thinner, but given a choice I would stick with the acetone. Chief
