I don't like sticking metal things in spark plug holes. Try a piece of 1/4" wood dowel instead. Turn the flywheel slowly and watch for the high point on the dowel. Once you find it, and are sure, you can mark the dowel with a sharpie or other waterproof marker at the spark plug opening. That way, you'll have a mark you can see at TDC.<br /><br />I used to do this with motorcycle engines, and had a different marked dowel to match each engine. It saved me a lot of time over the years.
