Acceptable to use Adhesive 847 on carb core plugs?

I am rebuilding my carbs for the second time since the core plugs were leaking. I don't think the "dome" part had been punched down completely. Regardless, the manual calls for "gasoila" sealant, which I do not have and feel is a bit of a waste for a one time use. However, I do have 3M Adhesive 847, which is labeled as gasoline resistant. Is this an acceptable alternative to Gasoila on the core plugs? Thanks for any help on this!!

Do you really want to go to the trouble of replacing the core plugs and then have to do it again because you took a short cut?

Either get the gasoila or its gasket shellac equivalent or go to your local auto store and see what they recommend. I'd guess one of the form-a-gasket products would be fine.

The truth is that they really don't need any sealant. In fact a bazillion of them were made with no sealant from the factory. But if you want the extra level of protection, go ahead and seal it. The danger is getting sealer inside where it will come loose and foul the tiny drillings. If I suspect one is leaking, I apply sealer (847 ok) around the outside edge of the assembled plug. There is no pressure there, only a small bit of vacuum.

Now, the trick is to flatten the dome till it is flat. But don't go beyond flat, as that will make it get looser.

Thank you for the quick replies! I will skip the adhesive this time around and if I suspect a problem with them in the future, I will add some around the top edge. I'll also be careful to flatten them appropriately! Thanks again to both of you.
