A Wet Transom?

Just for giggles, I cut out two small pieces of the skin where the transom is.I have concerns because all of the wood on the inside of the boat is rotten, including a big brace that runs the length of the boat behind the transom Inside, behind Transom. The stringers are also very rotten. After removing the small skin pieces,I felt the transom wood itself, and its solid, but it's quite wet Skin test patch 1.The top piece I cut out appears dry as a bone and also nice and solid Top Test patch. If I can dry this thing out, will it be OK, Or should I just go ahead and rip out the entire transom? Also started the sanding job. Here's a progress photo Halfway sanded.Still gotta figure out how to flip this thing over.

Transom's OK.Just wet.Drilled a few test holes and the bit came out with nice, clean wood.Looks like it's just a bit soggy. Thanks for the input, Realgun.I still have no clue what I'm doing, but I think I'm learning.Opinions mean everything at this point.I've got a blow dryer on the exposed transom now. When it dries,it's time to epoxy..This really cuts into my fishing schedule.

My boy and I got the snow off but the floor got a wee bit wet. If I am lucky I can move it in the garage and ewarm it up a bit to seal the wood!
Man I am beginnning to not like winter!

Move to the South, My Brother, Move to the south.
The women are prettier 'cause the humidity is higher.Good for the skin.Least that what my wife tells me.That much snow fall here, I don't have to work. Nobody knows how to drive in that stuff.
Does the temp affect the way the foam sets? I plan to put the stuff between the floor and the stringers.
What a great project boat! I hope to get as far as you have!

Right now I suggest you run for the hills! You are never to send a storm here again you hear me? :D

Nobody knows how to drive in that stuff.
God I love this quote so let me EXPLAIN WHY!

Everybody can drive in snow its not to hard. Whats hard is how the snow conditions affect the vehicle.
IF your in NY or where it is cold say 5 or 7 degrees above 0 then the tires are dry and you don't really slide as much. In the South the temps are usually 25 to 30 or just where water should freeze. :) Now your tires are wet! So like a skater you can slide a heck of a lot farther and you really have no traction. The real issue I see in the NY'ers move here and slide into everything because they kmow how to drive. Nope they have no traction!
Thats why truckers drive in CO rather than NM as your colder but you have more traction!

Does the temp affect the way the foam sets? I plan to put the stuff between the floor and the stringers.
Foam expands more if the temps are higher. Recommended temp is 70-85.

The temps I had were probably higher. I put the jugs in the tub and filled it with hot water. So they were at 100 degrees or so in the 30 minutes they were there. I took a hair dryer and put it in the hole for 5 minutes prior to mixing the foam. I got some great expansion. 2 hours later I showed the wife the foam and she was touching the hull and told me wow that part is HOT!. It was still warm from the foam.

Well Geeko, your definitly right about the south and snow. In atlanta if the weather man talks about snow, everyone heads to the store to get the last gallon of milk, and last loaf of bread! Plus you know you will have that day of work off! Ha Ha Ha gotta love GA for that!!

It is truly funny to watch the parade of idiots grabbing every gallon of milk and every loaf of bread. The toilet paper seems to go pretty fast as well. Personally, I'd prefer frozen pizza and bourbon. The soccer moms in their Hummers crack me up the most while they scramble for this stuff.God knows we all need those damn things here, especially with all of this rough terrain in Atlanta.I have to work regardless.Snow don't stop the almighty Internet,so Geek-man gotta work to keep those broadband juices flowing thru the pipes.
I went to college in Boston. That taught me to NEVER,EVER live above the Mason-Dixon line again.Way too much cold weather and snow.
Realgun-The foam's gonna work fine for me.I'm not going to have the temp extremes you seem to be experiencing.I'm waiting until June to install the stuff. That way, I know the weather is going to be hot and sticky regardless.
Mark42- You're right. Albuquerque ain't south,It's West, and West is just Purt-Near Differnt. (say that with you mouth cocked to one side, and you'll be be an honorary redneck) :p

Re: A Wet Transom?

If I lived in Lousiana, I'd weigh 400lbs.The food beats anything, and I've actually been to Europe a few times. Those Cat-Head biscuits at Mothers' in New Orleans.Jeez.I really did think I had died and gone to heaven.OK, I'm getting off of the subject here and I'm VERY SORRY!
Will somebody please tell me I can remove a transom from the inside of the hull? Don't want to have to cut up my little boat. Also would like to know if I can use the Interlux Topside stuff and paint my bottom (the boat bottom, that is).Since it's going to always be in fresh water for only a couple of hours a week, will I have a problem? Told you ahead of time I was a Dumb-***,so expect Dumb-*** questions.....
