...with a cartful of items is called an "expresshole".

And after the entire lot is scanned and bagged, with one interruption for a price check, she remembers her coupons and begins to dig around in her purse for them.

The clerk sorts through them, gives several back to her saying that they are:
1. from a different store
2. expired

After the applicable coupons are scanned in, she realizes that money will actualy be required to finish the transaction.

Then, and only then, does she begin to rummage through the huge purse for her cash. Slowly, oh so slowly, as though she's not familiar with the denominations, she comes up with a few bills and hands them to the clerk. But wait! It's not an even dollar amount, so she must fish around for the exact change...to the penny.

So much for "express" checkout....

I think they should have those registers lockup after scanning 15 items. Sorry, no,,, you can't have 16, 17, 18, 30 or 50 items checked at the 15 items or less register

Funny thing, my wife is the the money holder so when we go into the check-out line and after I have removed all items from the cart, my wife who stands in front of the cashier just stands there looking pretty as if it is the first time we have dance the supermarket dance (14 yrs of marriage). I politely look at her and say "if you expect me to pay for the groceries with my good looks we're screwed."

I personnaly love the people that go to the self check-out scanners and take for ever. IMHO if you do not know how to use the machines, or it just takes you too long to go through the motions, then do everyone else a favor and let someone else do it for you. Someone like say ummmmmmm a cashier.

This was a recent incident I would guess.

The last few days of a month and the first week are the worst times to shop.

These are the days when "assistance" checks, social security checks and retirement checks are delivered. Combine those checks with regular payday checks ......... havoc is created at most markets and "mart" type stores.

I know it's not an answer but it does relieve some of the shopping angst if you avoid the stores at this time.

I HAVE to say something to those inconsiderate shoppers. Usually questioning if its their inability to read or comprehensions issue they struggle with?:rolleyes:

The checker should let them unload their cart then close the register, and take a break.........

Yes I do, but whats your point JB??:confused: I also remember round picture tube black and white TV's, milk delivered to your door, and cars that lasted maybe 60,000 miles. The point of the OP was the inappropriate and inconsiderate use of the express lane.

I don't go to the market but seem to find myself at the home improvement store weekly. It's the check writers that get me. Similar to the above they seem to only remember at the last minute that they need to actually pay and oh yeah and it's still 1995 so can I borrow a pen? The home improvement store where I do much of the shopping (Menards which is in the Midwest) has no self check-out stands but they could sure use them. Conversely we vacation in northern Minnesota a lot and most of the small stores only accept checks or cash. Of course on vacation your immune to annoyances.

And then there is the person that waits until all their groceris are tallied and then reaches into their pocket book, whips out the checkbook and then starts writing in the date, pay to and the amount of product and then the signature.

They could have had most of that pre-done and then just write the cost once everthing was tallied.

Boy is that the truth. I try to avoid Wal-Mart in general but the first of the month is really ugly. Also the Save A Lots, Aldi's, etc.

The last time I was in Wal-Mart (against my better judgement, lady of the house decided she needed to go) was late on a Saturday afternoon, also a bad time. This time the problem was not a customer it was the cashier. We had a huge cart full unloaded and all of a sudden the cashier left. After a few minutes I said out loud "where the heck did she go"? One of the three ladies in front of us said "she went to get my mother a fork for her salad!:mad::confused: It was at least 5 min. before she came back. :( She looked at us and said "sorry about that". I did not say a word, just glared at her. I thought about talking to a manager but didn't. It doesn't matter, she was a young girl without a clue.

I don't understand the lack of consideration by people in ANY line. TEspecially women who get up to the pay area of the counter AFTER all their groceries are rung up and THEN decide to dig through their purse for the money, then look for coupons. It infuriates me.

When I get in line, I pull out my checkbook and start filling everything out except the amount BEFORE I even get to put my groceries on the counter.

There is plenty of time for people to be considerate, they just choose not to be. GRRRRRR
