I'm getting some lettering made up, and I'm wondering where to place the name on the bow. Letters will be 4" high, and approx. 22" long. Here's a couple of pics:

Should I put them above the black stripe, below the stripe, or cut out a piece of the stripe and have the top of the lettering even with the top of the stripe? There's a ridge that runs right along the top of the stripe, so I'm trying not to have them over it. I'm thinking of centering them even with the cleat, or just slightly forward. Whaddaya think?

i would use the top of the line as a guide for the bottom of the letters. the should come on a piece that you can use masking tape, to test where you want them. it is totally up to your taste.

Or you could just use a small flag bearing the boat's name and leave the hull as is.

Like TD said, placement is pretty much up to you. Personally, I'd go above the black line, and like you mentioned, centered a little forward of the cleat. It probably a good idea to temporatily stick them on with some tape and then back away from them and take a good look at a distance. Also see what they look like from dead ahead. Why from dead ahead? Because you're going to be looking at them in your rear view mirror for the next several years and it might steam your clams if they were not as straight as you would like.

for sure on above the black stripe.... location might depend on how much flair ya have to yer bow too. my bow flairs a bit so my numbers are a shade towards the rear of center of the fwd half of the boat. i was trying to get a vertical surface in my case as the further fwd on my boat the more the numbers would be faceing down towards the water.......

That's pretty much where I'm at. There is quite a bit of flare in the first 18-24" and I think they might look funny at that angle. Decisions, decisions.......

Damn I need to get out on the water. Lookin' at it in the driveway is killin' me.:D

What are we talking about, the name of the boat or the registration numbers? Your post says 'name' and "letters", but it seems some are talking about registration and numbers...

PS..Don't forget the soapy water trick. Put your letters on like a pro...
