I was watching "Meet The Press" this AM and it occurred to me that there is something all of the debaters are overlooking (both sides).

November, 1973, Warrenville, IL. I am hunting pheasants in a cornfield with my good friend, the Superintendent of the school district of which I was President.

We made a mistake. Each of us picked out a rooster track in the fresh snow to follow, and we seperated.

About 5 min. later I heard a rooster flush. I looked up and about 50yds away was the bird, flying straight at me with my friend exactly on the other side of him pointing his shotgun right at both of us. I ducked.

I took birdshot on the top of my head and on my shoulders which knocked me down and out. No serious or permanent damage. Three shot penetrated my hat and scalp and lodged there. The shot that hit my shoulders did not penetrate my jacket. I came to and stood up before he reached me. I was bleeding pretty well and the blood was running down my face.

My friend went into shock and required sedation for two days. I don't think he has fully recovered to this day. I got my head shaved and three little round band aids. I don't even have scars that I can see.

I was slightly injured in a hunting accident. End of story?

I wonder if anyone has any compassion for VP Cheney's state of mind after injuring his friend? My friend was a great deal more injured by the incident than was I. He thought for a few seconds that he had killed me. Coincidentally, his name was also Richard.

Give the guy a break.
