A Diamond in the Ruff? Or a guaranteed frying pan to the head from the Admiral?

I found this today in one of my customers back yards. The nice lady said it belonged to her late son and that her grandson had tried to sell it a couple of years ago. They had one person who came and looked at it and said they would take it. That person never came back.

It has been sitting out in the elements for several years, and has become some what of a trash bin for discarded items. The nice lady said she knew she would probably have to pay someone to haul it off, and has no idea how to go about it.

A little info on boat. Totally roached deck, stringers, transom, and bulkhead. Trailer tires are dry rotted and will not hold air. Rims and trailer frame are questionable as well. No motor or controls. Gel coat on cap is faded but not chalky. Tennessee is a bill of sale state so no title to worry about.

I told the nice lady I would do some digging and see if I found any value in the trailer. I was honest and told her the boat hull had nice lines, but that old hulls needing restoration were not good sellers. I told her I could see potential in her, but that my wife would probably kill me if I drug a project like this home when we already have one in the garage in the early stages of restoration. She said she was pretty much willing to give it away at this point just to get it out of the yard.

She may have been telling me all these nice things because I had just fixed her A/C and it was 92 here this afternoon.

Here she is.:behindsofa:.

It's bad I know.:hopelessness: So is my desire to take something ugly and make it beautiful again.

I'm serious I think the Admiral would kill me if I drag it home.:rip:

I think the MBS may win out this time.:twitch: If this were a Starcraft it would already be sitting in my yard. That may be my only saving grace at this point. It being a fiberglass boat versus a tin one.

I may still go get it.

Holly crap I need an intervention.:faint2::D

I believe it is an 18 foot Glasspar. No HIN on the transom, and I didn't brave the inside looking for a capacity plate. Mid 60's hull I think. The nice lady said she didn't know anything about the year.

hmmm, frying pan...

That boat looks really bad and would require complete disassembly and total refit. Way beyond my time and expense. Having said that, the next boater will say great deal, take it.....

I'm not sure who makes Glasspar boats. Also I just noticed while scrolling through my pics it does have controls, but I don't know what they are for.

Glasspar was a brand, made the G3 @1960 which is 1 of the boats Andgott was working on after doing his Lake and Sea. IIRC, he also did a 15 or 16ft Glasspar (Citation maybe?).

Looks like an OMC remote/control.

Dave, press the current holder for the Jup. Told him to GIVE it to you.

Diamond in the dump is a better description, TN. LOL

If you didn't have a Stratos to get on the water, maybe. But if your health insurance is good and covers Spousal Abuse -.

I had to show the Admiral this thread. She was looking over my shoulder earlier and saw my post. :becky:

She was not impressed with my idea!:pout:

I would absolutely have a used boat parking lot if I could! I'm lucky I have an Admiral who tolerates my need for broke stuff.:encouragement:

JB I'll be working on that.

tnstratofam I know what you mean. My wife is pouring lead in the frying pan right now. :bump2:

I've been offered a free Bayliner and trailer with titles. I'll probably bring them home.

The admiral is on the other side of the state right now so the timing is perfect. I wonder where I can hide them.

The boats could be donors. Not for head transplants but for our other project boats. :joyous: At least we can use that as an excuse to bring them home.

That remote is an old OMC electric shift - Johnson or Evinrude outboard. I triple-dog-dare you to add one of those into the mix

RUN RUN RUN ........ That thing is road art!
I just sold a boat for $500 with a perfect 90hp oil injected merc, and all it needed was $200 steering cable! There are always good deals out there you just have to look.... It would cost at least 3k to put a junk motor on it and make it seaworthy.. In the end it will have no resale value!

The trailer doesn't look that bad. But the boat? Why not haul it off, dump the boat, and repurpose the trailer.

Charge a nominal dump fee... and get titles.
(Here you need a title to haul one to the dump, so a lot of scrap boats sit in yards until the owner takes a chainsaw to it and makes it fit in a few 30 gallon trash cans)

You can waste a day clearing it out and see if there's any real hope but I'd plan to leave the hull for the bulldozer to run over.

Trailer might be worth a few bucks for scrap iron.... might be repairable into something useful.

There is another Glasspar just like this one over in the resto forum ... It has all glass stringers so maybe this one has the same ...
One less thing to repair ...

It's a Glasspar Seafair Sedan.

Sharp boat when it's not used as a planter... But I don't think they were rare since I see them on here and elsewhere quite often.

Now that would make this more attractive as a restoration project.

The only way to make that a diamond is to burry it deep and wait a long time.
