Hey there! I am new to the forum!

My name is Sam, Iam 20 and live in Florida, I was just passed down a boat the was my dads. He has passed away a few years ago, and the boat went to my grandfather. My grandfather held on to it, and he has just recently passed on. The boat is in my hands now, and I would love to fix it up to the way it used to be. Its been sitting outside for about 6 years or so.

Its a 17 foot TRI-Hull with a Evinrude 88 SPL.

So I began with checking to see if the engine would even start.
It was last ran a year and a half ago. I had to buy new gas tank and line.

I turned the key over and it started right up!!!! Goes it to gear, works great!!!

Now I move on the the floor, this is where I get lost!!!

1. I started ripping out the old flooring. I cut it flush with the fiberglass side walls.

2.Sanding down the sides? I am not sure what grit. Also how deep it should go? Just make it rough?

3.Flooring - Marine Or Presurre Treated?? On a budget lol

4. I guess you make a template of the floor and place on plywood, and cut it out?

5. I have left the seat's and what not in the boat.
Can I butt the wood up to the wall? or go under the wall like the old wood? What is easiest?

6. Also the middle stringer(TRI-Hull) is taller then all the others? This for water to run off? How do I make the floor work with this?

7.After cutting the wood? What kind of expoxy and fiberglass do I use?

8.Non-Skid Paint after? Brands?

9. Also I was not thinking when I was cutting the old floor out and I went right through the hull. Its about a 4 inch line. How do I patch? make it bigger and fiberglass?? Any tips??

10. Foam?? What kind?

Sorry for the all the question but any help would be great!!!!!

Every boat is a little different design wise but a lot of the techniques build wise are the same just done with different materials. Some prefer epoxy and others resin, etc.

Check out Friscoboater who documents most everything and some even in video.

You'll be able to put her back together as good as new...

Well all your questions can be answered in other threads, but what the heck, here ya go.

#1 Cool

#2 24 - 36 Grit, just enough to get to good glass

#3 Thats a big debate here, I perfer marine grade and don't like pressure treated for anything, but on a budget you'll be fine with just regular old AC exterior fir from the local home center.

#4 Yep

#5 By far better to replace the entire deck (floor), even if it means removing other things as well.

#6 Usually about a 1/2" or so higher, your new plywood will bow slightly and the screws you attach it to the stringers with will hold it fine.

#7 Polyester resin is the cheapest and I think the best way to go, some here like epoxy, up to you. If you go with polyester resin, all you need is some 1.5 oz CSM to seal the deck.

#8 Personal choice plenty out there

#9 This is a whole topic by itself.....look here http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=472732

#10 2 Part pourable foam, 2 lb denisity.

Yeah....look it over good, may be possible to raise them slightily and get the new deck under them, not sure without being there

If they are attached to the top cap, can you just remove the whole top cap and get it out of your way? Make life simplier on a whole deck job like you have.
