This thing is acting up most of the time. When it does, it will barely get on plane and will only do 56 (gps) @5100 rpm. It's on a 00 Triton TR20, 25" Tempest Plus, and 8" jackplate. I checked compression...120 psi on all. I think it's electrical. But where to start?<br />Thanks!

I've never had it at the top end while it was acting good, but I can say it will come out of the hole in a few seconds...not a minute when it's weak. It's like a couple of cylinders aren't hitting. I'm carrying my timing light with me, so maybe I can catch it in the act and find the holes not hitting. And, no, I haven't done a thing to the fuel system, yet. I'll take the fuel filter canister off soon and see what that looks like. One other thing...when it's running poor, and your idleing along with the wind at your back, you can really smell gasoline. Like it's not burning it in a few cylinders. The fact that the cool months are upon us means I may have few opportunities before spring to do some more investigation.

I'm having trouble with myy 99 efi I've had to replace the ecm I just finally had mine checked with a DDT.I submitted a problem on here where mine loads up at low rpm's you can smell it is not firing on all cyliders.I found out they have problems with the ecm's on these after time the guy that checked mine has replaced 4 already at his shop mine runs fine now.Mine is on a 93 22' Proline Cuddy Cabin Offshore very heavy boat.Fully loaded with gear and 80 gallons of full she does like 50 gps at 5600 rpms now.

wow a new one on me, I always thought that the failure rate on the ECM was rather low, I have never had a bad one on a merc, so far. a lot of stators and swicth boxes and the new style CDM's but never with the ECM. last ECM I priced was around 1200 dollars.

Yeah ecm problem was a new one for me too I got a used one and she runs fine not saying that's what is wrong with yours. You have to have it checked with a DDT.Ecm's are expensive it is the big black box in front of the motor it has EFI stamped on it the boxes are hard to find used. If you get it tested and it's bad RAPAIR will fix it for like 600.00.

Re: 99 200 EFI Low Power

I would check your CDM's before spending the big bucks on a new ECM. Its very hard to figure out what one is bad if its an intermittent problem. I had 3 of them go bad but they only acted up sporadically on my 99 225. After $500 of labor charges they told me the problem. Basically they changed all of the CDM’s then put the old ones back on one by one to find the bad ones. Very frustrating since I spent spending many nights with my timing light trying to figure out the problem and knew it was electrical but just couldn’t nail it down. Good luck
