98 ficht update to 175HP

Hi gys,
i have an 98 150HP ficht , rebuilded completly last year!

I have all diagnostic sw and interface.

How i can update the emm vom 150 to 175 HP.

I can read the memory but i dont have the 175HP files....where i can get it?

To be able to do that, you must get hold of the prg that allows you to erase and reprogram the EMM as well as a valid 175 mod and serial number. That prg was never released to others that a few selected distributors world wide.

the best way would be to buy a 175 EMM i think . afaik you must the adjust the injectors to the ne EMM. with other words : stay with your 150 horses !

Hmmm...
In the diagnostic software is a page to replace the EMM.

It shows me what to do...

Read out the EMM, diconect and replace to new one and rite the file to new EMM.

Also it say i can read memory of the EMM and rite without replace the EMM.

Is that not the function iam looking for?

i think what you see is the function for changing a faulty EMM and writing files for recognizing the new one to the engine. but you would need to be able to write a whole new engine mapping for conversion into 175hp- thats another story !

i,m not sure here and i think very few can say for sure if the 150-175hp difference is purely the EMM and when yes what exactly is changed and if you have the chance to readout and change the engine mappings.

OT: could you say some words to your rebuild? the reason and the costs , i have basicly the same engine ( 2000 150hp ficht-ram) and just for interest !

Hi aerobat,
i did the big rebuild, Pistons, con rods, bearings, zylinder sleeves ect.

The costs in total 2200 eur, all parts from USA. Only shipping and taxes was mor tha 600 eur...

i cannot help you much when it comes to the engine mappings of the emm, but just looked at the part numbers of the 150 and 175 1998 ficht. the block , the heads and the pistons are the same, but the throttle body as well some assembly parts there are different listed and have different part numbers, so it seems the difference is NOT purely the EMM .

...i took a look at iboat evinrude parts.
all parts i checked were build in the 150 and 175HP inclusiv the EMM.

For EMM replacmend is this note:
This part must be ordered from Warranty/Technical Service Department.

Where ever that is...are they sill in business?

The part of your program for replacing the EMM is 'limited'. You would have to order a replacement EMM giving your engine and mod serial number to the distributor/dealer. When installing, what you in reality do is to confirm by entering your mod and serial into the EMM that you have got the correct engine to correspond to the ordered EMM. In case your old EMM is still 'accessible', you may even copy the mapping to your new EMM from the old. Originally the EMM's were delivered empty, just like a blank disk, however most distributors had the possibility of 'preloading' them with correct mapping which was needed when the EMM's totally failed.
You may as mentioned install a 175 EMM, but might run into risk at re-sale or in case it gets stolen and re-found that number in EMM does not correspond with that on the engine. Might create a legal mess. Be aware that 20 and 25" engines have different mapping as well as all the mods that have been introduced over the years. Mapping may even change from country to country!! Was even cases where we changed mapping depending on boat type. RIB's in general ran too lean and we used to re-map them to a richer mix in the mid range to avoid this problem. The same mapping on a heavier boat resulted in a carboned down engine in a few hours!!
I had a lot of fund the first years the Fiichts came out and was lucky to have rather good direct factory connections.

It is possible to update a 150 Ficht EMM to a 175 map while maintaining the original engine model and serial number. It's possible to do this without sending your EMM to be re-written and without Distributor-level access to the Evinrude Diagnostic Program.

Just like the old days of programming. The hardware engineers would screw up the hardware of the system and we would have to fix it in software. Did I ever tell you how I had to write a "seeking" algorithm for a flight recorder? Depending on which way the data storage tape moved, the hardware would "forget" how many blocks to move and get lost. The fix was done in SW.
