Hello,
I would appreciate some ideas for where to begin fault finding with my problem.

My engine starts and idles very easily when cold, but after random periods of time it will not start whilst it is hot, and it particularly doesnt like to troll for long periods of time. It will occasionally just cut out at cruise RPM's. When I try to start, it will not even kick or splutter.

When it happens, I have checked the plugs and they are all wet so it is definately getting fuel, I have even cranked it over with a plug inserted into a lead and nothing, but if I wait about 10-15 annoying minutes , it will start fine and run perfectly for between 10 mins or 2 hrs, there doesnt seem to be any pattern to it.

Any hints or ideas appreciated.

Do you have an onboard fuel tank, or do you use portable tanks? There may be a venting problem with the tank(s) or a dirty fuel filter, or loose fuel line connection.

Sounds more like a stator or pack problem as I havent seen a optical eye come or go. Go to CDI's web page and download troubleshooting manual for that system.

Thanks for the responses.

Oldcat, spark plugs are wet so its definately getting fuel, plus i dont get any cough's or spluttering (as you would expect with ignition present, but another problem)

Fatzbullet, I just checked the CDI website. Its pretty impressive I must say. Im not very up to speed on marine electrics, so are you saying that my power pack would be OEM from CDI? Is that who OMC used as a supplier?

If you order a replacement thru a dealer 90% chance it will be a CDI with Bomb sticker...

dip you need to learn how to use a DVA adapter..very handy for trouble shooting electronics..CDI has the DVA readings and what wires to test if you go to each part number for your motor will have a install sheet with how to trouble shoot and test that part.

At the risk of my sounding completely stupid could someone list the link here for the "CDI" website. I guess it is here somewhere in the forum but I'll be ******* if I can find it. I've also got a 115 OceanPro (MY2000) that I suspect has an ignition problem. Any OIS references are greatly appreciated. Waiting patiently with DVA adaptor in hand! Thanks.
