Re: '97 OMC/VOLVO 5.7 GLI STARTUP CONDITION

I did previously replace the ect sensor with no change, I think that I might have used an automotive application I dont think that is the problem unless the one that I pulled out was also an automotive application which is possible I suppose. I cant imagine that omc or volvo would have developed their own ect with different range specs. <br />On injector service;I have not had them serviced since I have owned the boat, however this is definately ecm related; too rich for exactly 100 seconds, then like you flip a switch, normal operation.

could be a bad ECM at start up the ECM goes to a default and presets the IAC and the fuel pulsewidth until other engine sensors can be applied. thats why you get the slight engine rev up at start. could also be a defective IAC not opening all the way. or a bad IAC driver circuit. I have seen inrange failures that do not set codes but can make the EFI sytem do funny things. you will need the lap top or the scan tool to play with the IAC and to observe injector pulse width while starting and that 100 second intravel.

another overlooked item that badly affects ecm protocols on startup is supply voltage. batteries might be good etc but you need to ensure good voltage @ cranking via breakout.<br />for that you will need a manual.

the breakout for volvo ecm's is plastic head pins or a paperclip unfolded.

hi guys, I finally got my code tool. About 10 mins after reading the codes I had the problem located and repaired. I had a code 14 ECT high resistance. I pulled the ECM connectors apart and found that one of the ect wires had come out of the connector. I snapped it in and bingo problem solved! Thank you all for your help.

Is this engine reliable? Any known problems?

Thanks for your help,

Start a new thread with any questions you have. Use old ones as a reference, but don't bring back old 2005 threads with your question stuck at the end of ot.
