I have a 1997 Johnson Oceanrunner 150 HP, Model 150 EXEU. The powerhead recently "blew up" while I was running at about 4300 RPM, it started a "rattling" sound and died. When I tried to restart, the rattling continued but the motor quit again. On the 3rd try, it locked up and will not now turn over. :'( I'm considering buying a rebuilt powerhead and replacing it myself. Anyone have any thoughts or advice regarding this plan? What special considerations should I be aware of? I'm a pretty good mechanic although I've never done any work on motors this big and complex. I used to race Stock Outboard boats and did all of my own motor work on those older Mercs! Or should I just bite the bullet and take to a dealer and pay the shot?
PS. Is this a Ficht motor?
