I've had this boat for a few weeks now and it wouldn't start the other morning till i gave it a small shot of starter fluid. i don't see any choke lever on the controls, i was wondering if maybe it was removed. The motor fires in a snap once it's warm. correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't a choke help for a cold start up. i don't really like using the starter fluid. is there a primer kit that will work for this motor like the remote ones used on jet skis?

You push in the key and hold it while turning to crank the engine.. The engine does not have a classic "choke" it has an enrichment valve that squirts raw gas into each manifold. The solenoid has a black push-button manual override if for some reason the electric won't work. The enrichment valve/solenoid is located on the top manifold between the two carbs.

Merc 3000 control box? Push in the center button and advance the control handle for cold start/ fast warm-up.

Okay so my boat does have that feature but it didn't help with the cold start. I tried it for a bout 20 sec. 5 or 6 times and it never started but I'm sure the enrichner is working because fuel started to seep through a few spots on the lower unit. Ithink it is flooded now. I pulled the top line off the thing with the button and pushed it, it pumps but very little. the button only pushes a tiny bit, is this a good sign?. I also noticed a wire that's disconnected. Any idea what that goes to?

Not much help but mine is a 97 120. Have a wire goes to no-where also. No idea what its for.
Can say its a finiky motor when cold. Have the bulb on fuel line next to motor? Squeeze it
2 times. Push in on the key 2-3 seconds and no more and crank. Squeeze 1 time push in the
key 1 second. Mine likes it done a certain way have to figure out what yours likes. Am no pro
but a 97 120 like mine you have to play with it. Make no sense am sure but for mine its true.
Still dont know what wire is. For an accesory? Has nothing to do with fuel best I can find.

The choke or enricher doesn't have to be engaged everytime for a cold engine to start. As soon as the engine starts to "cough" you should refrain from engaging the choke or enricher while starting, otherwise you will flood the carbs. And the control should be placed in "fast idle".

I may have forgot to use my safety lanyard yesterday so looks like I'll be trying it again with the lanyard this time.

Turns out I'm just a bit in a hurry some times and I over look the obvious! She fired right up with no starter fluid, just a little throttle (in neutral of course) and a few seconds with the key pushed in and turning to start and vrooom. Thanks a lot guys you knew exactly what to do

It wants you to figure it out. Sounds like
yours is the same.
