My older 7.4 would have the fuel drain down from the carburetor after being left for more than a couple of days. It seemed like it took a bit to get the fuel fully primed so that the engine would be happy on its own. you may have a similar problem. not sure what the solution might be, since I just lived with it on my engine. the fuel pump may have something to do with it, or there is a check valve at the fuel tank that may need some attention.

Ayuh,.... If ya got an electric fuel pump, you can alter the wirin' to cycle the pump to reprime the carb,....

With a mechanical pump, ya just gotta crank it over on the starter to reprime the carb,....

Electric fuel

Can I add an electric fuel pump inline with my mechanical and put it on a toggle switch so I can use it to fill the float bowls with fuel before starting and then shut it off or will it damage my mechanical

NO

you can use one or the other, however not both

what problem do you have that you believe you need to cobble and hack your fuel system? if your fuel bowls are leaking fuel into the motor, or external to the carb, then rebuild your carb and fix the problem

Ayuh,..... As a Test,..... Next time to the boat, pull the flame arrester off, 'n dump a 1/4 once of clean gas down the throat of the carb, then go to the helm, advance the throttle to Wot, Once, pull back slightly, 'n hit the key,....

If it fires right up,....
As Scott says, Rebuild the carb, it's leakin',....
