Apologize gents, i read the "read this first sticky" and so will now repost, minus the newbie errors and hopefully better description of problem.

1996 Volvo Penta SX, lower unit oil change

1 With motor trimmed all the way down, vertical, removed vent plug (it took an impact driver), found a solid mass of white chalky substance 1/4 inch deep, to back of plug hole, removed substance with dental pick, until i found the small channel in back, the orifices at channel felt full of same substance tried to remove some

2 Removed drain plug, approx 3qts of oil did drain out in about 20-30 min.

3 With standard pump and plastic threaded attachment in place on drain hole threads, was able to pump a little over 1 qt until the rubber hose blew off the end of the pump spiggot and oil started spraying everywhere. Tried this a couple times to no avail, kept pressuring up.

4 used air compressor dialed down to about 5 psi to blow air down from vent hole to drain, felt no air at drain. Tried to blow air from drain to vent, felt no air.

after doing some reading on here, i'm thinking someone had the lower off before and got sealant goop spread around too much in the re-install, or very bad aluminum corrsoion inside of threads at back of vent plug hole.

any recommendations/ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
