I have a 96 mercury 225 with 6 wires at the key switch. The new switch (sierra mp41070-2) has 6 wires which are yellow/red, black/yellow, black, red, purple, yellow/black. I connected all of them to there corresponding colors, motor turns over but no spark at plugs. I have also connected all except one of the wires (black/yellow) to the matching wires coming from the motor, still no spark. I have disconnected the black/yellow wire at the top of the cannon plug going to the motor and tried to crank it but still no luck, the same thing keeps happening, no spark on all cylinders. There is no kill switch lanyard on the console, it has been disconnected and bypassed somehow. I have checked the black and yellow wire going from the motor to the console and it is grounded all the time. I know this is why the motor will not fire but for the life of me I can not figure out how to make it work. I took a continuity tester and hooked it to the black yellow wire at top of cannon plug isolating it so that it is only hooked to the motor. I touched the tester to the motor and it shows that the wire is grounded. I took the tape off of the wiring harness on the motor and looked for frays but there were none. The motor started fine with the old switch but it was just worn out looking and I wanted to replace it. The only thing I did was cut the wires from the old switch under the console and hook them up to the new switch. Now it wont start. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
