96 force 75hp: loses traction in water when accelerating?

...must be the full moon.
I was just out riding ~4800rpm and all was operating well. All of a sudden it sounded like the engine went vrooom but I was not going anywhere. I cut back the throttle
and I could putt along. When I try to accelerate it seems the prop is losing traction in water and the the engine whines high.
Goes into gear(forward and reverse) and all when putting along.
----> just when I accelerate the prop loses traction. Thoughts?
thanks!

spun prop?
Never heard of that before.
does this mean the 'rubber hub' needs replacing?
I read the rubber hub is designed to absorb gear shift shock loads.
Could the rubber hub fail while cruising ~4800rpms just out of the blue?
How do I replace the 'rubber hub' and where is the best place to get the part?
thanks!

Next time out, before unloading, take a magic marker and make a line from the outside of your hub to the inside. Make the problem reoccur. Then check to see if the line is still intact. Broken line = spun hub. I'm in socal so can't help w/where to fix it. There are prop shops that replace hub rubber inserts.

...can spun hub 'rubber hub' be replaced while boat is in water?
or can it only be done at a prop shop?

Prop shop only wants your prop. Remove the propeller wherever it suits your fancy. Parts are hard to put back if you drop them in the water.

....

....went to prop shop @ 1:50pm picked up repaired prop @ 3:15pm
Bull's prop shop: Beaufort, NC. He wanted $30, I gave him $40.
Great service recognized!
Thanks for all your help.

.....seems most of todays props are designed for self repair.
Hub kits ~$50

One prop shop I called only works on inboard props. He also said aluminum
props are generally turned down for hub replacement
b/c of the possibility of damaging the aluminum
where ss is stronger. This was ss.
