I have a 96 Evinrude that is acting up on me, 130 HP. To me it sounds like the engine is starving for fuel. I have had the ignition replaced, VRO pump, carbs cleaned and new kits put on and I am about to change the primer blub. However, when I was looking over the engine today I noticed that the gaskets on the carbs are very wet. I wanted to know if that is normal or not. I figured they would stay dry since they are supposed to seal them tight.

2nd is the picture of the fuel that I pulled from the carbs. I have read a bit about vapor locking and it kind of seems like that. Is it normal for the fuel to have this many small bubbles. That is the fuel out of the four carbs.

Please let me know what you think before I bring it back to the dealership to get more of my money taken. Thanks

firstly, I think you have water in the fuel.....

secondly, the gasket shouldn't be wet , make sure both halves of the carbs are tightly screwed together

Guessing your in the US(location, profile) Ethanol is messing with older motors.
Starving for fuel?Vent line clogged.
Lots of water in that gas.
You might want to change ALL the hoses and connectors on the motor.
The wet carbs could be loose screws(fishfeatures)or blowback from the carbs.
Just rebuilt carbs?Possible the floats weren't installed right?

first i would take the top off the tank where float is an drain all the fuel. a kerosine bulb type pump works best fot this. drain all fuel an water as best as possible an pour in a bottle of 100 percent alchol an leaving the top off let evaporate. this should also evaporate the water too. this is the way i cleaned my tank.boat had no power with weight in it.fixed my water problem and boat ran fine after that. helped me so maybe this will give u a start. hope this helps. good luck

Re: 96 130Hp Evinrude issues

well I took it out yesterday and I dont think the fuel is the issue. I drained the carbs and fleshed them out with new gas. I bought a brand new 6 G gas tank and went direct to the primer blub. I worked great on the first run (3 mins) and then started to die and bog down again the rest of the trip. The primer blub was replace two days ago and that stayed hard the entire time.

The dealership changed the VRO pump as well as cleaned the carbs and put in new kits. To me it has to be one of those two if I elimated the fuel as a problem.

Gas tank=====Primer blub=========VRO pump======Carbs======???

Thoughts?

New tank??? Not the problem.
New bulb??? Not the problem.

The inline connectors. The ethanol is breaking them down.
I cut them out(if possible)and go direct from the tank to the bulb to the pump to a filter and to the carbs.

Cleaned the carbs? Could be the problem. At least 2 jets in that carb.
The highspeed jet clogged??Float set wrong??

VRO pump is where I'd really look.I hate em!!!
$300-400 and can go in a second when new.
With the new fuels we burn??
I talk my customers into changing over to a regular pump and use premixed gas.

Someone recomended using alcohol in the main tank to absorb the alcohol.
DON"T use rubbing alcohol. It has water in it already.
Boat stove alcohol is the best. Can be bought at camping stores.
