You need a peak-reading volt meter for this test. It would read 250+ DC volts

So I'm measuring coil output to the plugs.I was testing to see what the voltage was to the coil.Good excuse to buy another meter though, thanks boys...

Re: 95evinrude50hp cdi?

hello
coil primary voltage should be someplace above 130 volts. anything below about 60 cant produce a secondary voltage. the digital meter cant react fast enough to see the voltage peak.
the voltage is not stepped up in the power pack just rectified and stored. its a garbage in garbage out type deal. the secondary side of the coil normally produces 5-7Kv. its capeable of more but normally not. and yes there is a meter for that as well :)
Rodbolt likes meters :)

ya really should buy a service manual like the seloc or clymer that has a description of how a CD ignition works or at least look at the yamaha post I made yesterday about a pro-V.

Thanks rodbolt, gettin the manual is easy but tryin to scam a new meter this close to christmas might be tricky to get by the wife.I'll root around at work and see if a friendly neighbourhood electrician can help me out.Checked out your post on the yammy too, which helped, thanks again for the info,cheers...
