Was out on the lake over the weekend and when I loaded my boat back onto the trailer I noticed this huge dent in the side above the waterline. Anyone have any ideas on how to go about repairing this?

Yep! Its fiberglass. Might have a foam core and crush the foam? Not really sure, just wanted to see if anyone had thoughts on it.

Go inside and push it out, it should pop back into shape unless it been sitting that way for long time, then it may take a while to recover its shape. You may need to remove the rub rail and reinstall the screws in a different hole, the current ones are most likely stripped.

Thanks! That's what I was planning on doing except I will have to see if I can pull it out with a plunger as there is no way to get to the inside of the hull. Should I try to fill it with GreatSufff (foam) or just pull it out and re-screw? Current screws are stripped. I fear this has happened before as I think it originally was riveted together.

Geez I hate when That happens. The ole 12" crushed fiberglass don't know how it showed up squishy thing. That would be cool if you could just "pop" it out from the inside. Maybe a car dent puller or sucktion cup.?

Update! I drilled the rivets out of the rub rail, removed all the screws and was able to pop the dent out. Now to put it back together. Not sure if I should put some kind of caulk between the upper and lower hull? Should I screw the upper and lower together and then go back and rivet the rub rail on or just screw together through the rub rail?
Any help/suggestions are appreciated

Some boats are glassed at the hull/deck joint, others are caulked, and some don't have anything but the rub rail screws or rivets. So it's up to you, I'm not sure if it would make a difference (help) if only a foot or two was caulked if the rest wasn't.

Update: Screwed it all back together, took it out to the lake and had some fun only for the same thing to happen again, but not in the same spot. I think this go round I will try some type of epoxy/caulk between the two parts before I add screws.

Before your 'repair' it again, ya need to figure out whats causing it.

Docked somewhere theres lots of boat traffic creating wakes/waves banging your boat into the dock?

Hard knocks approaching a dock too fast and hitting the bumpers too hard?

Tied up w another boat thats rubrail is below yours w no bumper between them?

I've never seen a boats hull pushed in like that before, let alone the same boat twice in 2 back to back outings.

It has to be wake from other boats when I am out on the water. I did not have it docked or tied to any other boats when I was out last. It was fine when I put it in the water, I went out and played around in it and we stopped to go for a dip and I noticed it was pushed in again.

It was a little rough but I wouldn't have thought that it was so rough it would have pushed in the hull like it did. The first time it happened it definitely wasn't as rough.
Maybe I am just too rough on the boat? Just driving it like it a jet boat should be driven!
