I have a 1995 Mercury EFI on a 1995 Cajun bass boat. The first time I had it out this season I made a long run on LOZ. On the long run the RPMs would surge at high engine speeds. If lowered the RPMs below 4000 it would run smooth. On the run back I just kept the RPMs low and it ran fine.
After sitting for a month I took it back out. I had a hard time starting it. It would crank try to start and stop. It finally started and ran fine except the RPM surge at high speeds. Again I just kept it under 4000. The second day it started no problem. However now it was low on power it was even hard to get it up on plane. At full throttle it would take a long time to get on plane and the RPM surges got worse. It also used 3/4 a tank of gas and I didn't run that much at all.
Any help would be appreciated. If you need more info please ask I will try to provide as much as I can.
