95' Glastron w/mercruiser 3.0lx bogging down

Hey guys new to this forum, Hello to all and will appreciate anyone's help.<br /><br />I have a 95' Glastron SSV175 with a mercruiser 3.0lx, last year it started acting up on me right when summer ended and i ignored the problem until now.<br />I got it out yesterday for the first time since last year and it fired right up, but i am having an RPM issue. It seems like the engine is bogging down. It will only get to 4800RPMs on the water and go about 10mph if your lucky. Never had any probs with the boat, but last year i changed the rotor in the distributor and the spark plugs because they were pretty nasty, Can the timing be off or what? It idles fine and sounds and starts great, it just won't get up and go.<br /><br />Thanks Guys

is it revving freely when in neutral??<br />have you checked for dirt in the petrol, also check that you have a good spark..did you do the points and condenser in the distributer when you replaced the rotor? 4800 should be close to redline for that engine depending on your prop size??

You need to be more clear whats going ON are you running at 4800 RPM and 10 MPH ?<br /><br /><br />tommays

if i give it WOT it only reaches 4800RPM and gets to 10MPH. It will reach 6000RPM trimmed out and hit 43-44MPH. It sounds like its running right it just won't gain RPMS like it should?<br /><br />I am going to put a timing light on it tonight and chech the PSI in the Cylinders and clean the carb with some seafoam.<br /><br />BTW, i saw on here where a guy put water down his carb to clean it? Wouldn't that mess it up?<br /><br />Thanks,

About the only thing that sounds right is the 43 MPH<br /><br />You realize the WOT MAX RPM should be 4800 <br /><br />The tack has a good chance of being worng and should be checked against a shop tack<br /><br />I cant see any way of running at 4800 rpm and 10 mph even with drive all the way down it just makes no sense at all<br /><br /><br />tommays

That Must be a Metric Tach if you're turning 6000rpms with a 3.0LX......

If you hit 6000 rpm with a 3.0L (4 cyl, Chevy engine) and it's still in one piece, then you need to have the tach checked. You should also always trim out a boat to run it's best. Trimmed all the way down, many boats will be plowing so bad it would never get to 4800 rpm or above 10 MPH.<br />It all comes back to the tach being wrong. There is an adjustment on the back of most tachs, make sure it's set for 4 cyl.
