95 Force 40 and 50 hp differences

What is the difference between these two motors?1995 Carb, jetting or totally different.Also how big of a job is replacing the water pump impeller. Also hello all as this is my first post!

Welcome 4x4.<br /><br />Not much is different.<br /><br />Here is a web page that has the parts diagrams for the '95 40 and 50 hp motors. You can check out the differences if you like.<br />Note, this is only for the 1995 model year.<br /><br /> http://www.mercruiserparts.com/selectDocs.asp?doc_nbr=820750 <br /><br />A quick look thru the parts listing, which is common for the 95 40 and 50 hp, it looks like not only are the jets different, but the entire carb is different. All other parts seem to be common. <br /><br />The timing specs are the same too.<br /><br />This may be one of the few motors that can swap all parts except the carbs.<br /><br />So it appears the 40hp would also be fairly easy to upgrade to a 50. Hmmm. <br /><br />Impeller change is fairly easy if you follow the step by step instruction in a repair manual. It might take you 2 hours since it is your first time. After you are familiar with it, you can do it in 30-45 minutes.<br /><br /><br />Good Luck.

No special tools that I can remember. <br />A couple wrenches, maybe an allen wrench.
