I have a 95 Evinrude 150 model J150GLEO. I needed a new rectifier so l ordered the OMC part #585219 since it was on the list of compatible parts. Upon installation attempt I noticed that the 585219 does not have a purple wire. It has red, two yellows going to the connector, and one grey wire. Can this part be installed on this motor or do I need to order a different one. If so what do I do with the purple wire?

Prior posts on this subject say that the purple wire is no longer needed and to just tape it off; You may want to let the gurus chime in on this since I am not qualified to say for certain. Good luck

Will Bark is right. The purple wire was the sensing wire. Later replacement rectifier regulators are sensed internally so do not have a connection for the purple wire. It can be left disconnected., but it must be properly insualted so that it cannot short out.

You will find this information in 3rd party parts catalogs

Thanks for the info. I will give it a try. This is a used part and not new. It came of a 150 that is a few years newer. I tested the diodes and they are good. So it looks like that is my labor day project.
