You need to start with a compression test.

Running the motor lean can put holes in pistons, such as needing choke when running a fast speeds.

certainly sound like, a minimum carb cleaning, but lets 1st get those compression numbers.

No water needed. Pull out all the plugs. Remove lanyard so plug wires don't receive spark. Crank at least 5 times ea cylinder.

:DI did the compression check the right side si 95 top 95 middle 95 bottom.the left is 90 top 85middle 80 bottom i put in 1 teaspoon of 2cycle oil rechecked and all cylinders are 95 to 100.put the plugs back in turned on the water motor started on the 1st try no sputtering or popping.idles great but dont see the tach moving the sealoc manual says i need a special meter to check the tach all i have is a fluke 77can i check it with that meter:confused:i dont want to rev it up when its not in the water.I forgot to say that I replaced the primer bulb and gas hoses and used new screw down clamps.the old ones were plastic with teeth.put in a new fuel filter.checked all the connections at the motor before it got dark.thanks for your help it sure is better than just a book:)
