When we apply 12v directly from the battery +, - Positive post on starter-frame ground, we can't get the bendix to raise and engage with the flywheel. The solenoid has been bypassed as well. The bendix spins. When we raise it manually and engage it, there is not enough torque to turn the flywheel. Battery shows 12.1 Showed 12 on the dash gauge when it died in the middle of the river. Had enough juice to raise and lower the motor several times in the last day or so. When I took the flywheel cover off the bedix was up, engaged (probably from a prior starting attempt).
Will have the battery tested under a load in the next day or so. Shouldn't the bendix raise, engage, start and drop back down out of the way just like a car?
Is there a solid state voltage regulator and if so, where do I find it. I get the same readings across the poles on the solenoid that I get at the battery. There is a marine battery toggle switch used to run two batteries. We are currently running only one battery. It's running off of switch setting 2. Plugs have been checked. Maybe 100 hours on them since last plug change.
