94 140 evinrude not accelerating

I recently purchased a 2003 boat with a 115 johnson but the engine was shot so I put a 94 140 evinrude on that hull which everything seemed to match perfect. The 140 had previously spent 24 hours under water due to submerged stumps but after we retrieved it , put it on a stand, pulled plugs and lubricated cylinders it started immediately. Die Hard. the coil pack was changed as a precautionary.
The motor starts immediately and idles fine but upon acceleration it boggs down drastically and starts popping and hesitating. Is there anything different from a 115 johnson and a 140 evinrude controls that i should look for? My compression and firing is good. Lost???

fog the carb/s and see if it wants to run better. If it does, i am suspecting high speed circuits are plugged up,. Good luck and post yer results

Hey bro I truly apoligize for sounding green but how do you fog the carbs or better yet what do you mean? Thanks for the speedyresponse

No worries Waffalee! Find a spray bottle and add fuel/oil mix into it. At the point when engine starts to act up, Give the carbs a quick shot hence (FOG) or mist whatever you prefer, and see if it wants to run better. If high speed jets are plugged up it will want to run better!!. If it doesnt, we will need to take a look at a few other issues! Post results and good luck! Monte1961

is there an overspeed switch on a 115 johnson or an 140 johnson? If so where is it located?

I've fog the carbs several times and nothing happened. It just acts like it wants to accelerate but stalls at one level. It doesnt die out but just acts like its either starving or its an electric issue. can someone let me know where else to look?

k found out what a link & sync is so i've got to research and find out how to do it.
